segregate marinas for power and sail with motor sailors in the middle, the sail boat area would be dredged to a 4m depth and power to 3m.

Would this appeal to you , the sailors would not have to put up with the thumping of engines and the power boater would not have to put up with the twanging noise of the halyards etc

or do you think it would cause a them and use mentality.

What do you think the marinas could do to make any improvements, ie booze delivery to boats, grocery orders taken at the marina office.

This will take some consideration:-

1. Presumably due to draught the powerboaters would be inshore of the sailors. Does this mean that all the sailors will be awakened by the powerboats leaving early, or are you relying on the sailors being up with the lark to catch the tide?

2.With the draught segregation this would mean the sailors have to walk further than the powerboaters. Is this deliberate? Sailors can suffer gyro failure of the legs on the way back from the boozer just as much as anyone. And why should they have further to walk to the boozer?

3. With regard to provisioning; do power boaters drink/eat more than raggies; do the m/sailors drink/eat for both; who should be nearest the draycart/shoppe? Think of the delivery logistics.

4. Halyard rattle is usually confined to unattended yachts. Those on board sort the problem very quickly, and sometimes sort the problem on the adjacent (unattended) boat as well. Perhaps the mix of generator noise and halliard rattle is to be promoted?

5. Them and us? Possibly but not so far as I am concerned cos we are all seafarers.

6. Err, . . .

Whilst you have taken the bait..................
Money isnt ability, you know that you are in the minority when it comes to female sailors. Just like I am when I go to the knitting circle. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Personaly I would like to see more females in the boat yard, your quite right they would keep it cleaner.!!

For what its worth Julie the people who are REALLY RICH! are normally segregated from all the avarage Mobos and raggies! As they have boats of 20 metres plus and money to match.

And lets face it if you were running a marina it would be in your own interest to keep these people happy as they pay for privileges, unlike owners of smaller craft and budgets!

So like the marinas abroad the policy is all about the size of you bank balance!...........If you can't pay the cost of my next house..... then tie up over there and squable with the rest, and if you don't like it.... theres another marina just up the coast! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

1.you could have pure power pontoons and pure sail pontoon, with the motor sailors in a middle pontoon.
2. Sorted by above,
3.they mite invest in some easy to use trolleys then. or even eclectically powered ones.
4.Nice to hear, thinking of others,
5, agree all in same hole in the water situation.
6. hummmm....

So what happens then if one weekend only a few Mobos visit, but the marina is overwhelmed with yotties, do you turn the overspill away as there are no more spaces for yachts or moor them in the mobo section! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

money is money ......... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
there could be a short stay policy, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif or a mixed visitor section. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Exactly what I have said Julie! Money is the key factor my dear /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Dunno for sure!

But what about SECTIONS of mixed users, boaties and raggies together? Sectioning those who use the locks most frequently to moor closest to the locks and vice versa...regardless of type of boat? I used to know one poor older fellow, almost blind, who never sailed or motored anywhere, but just wanted to sit quietly and smoke his pipe. The marina provided a berth..... first in from the locks!!!

Not sure what others want from their boating experience whilst in the marina but for me, it's an alternative to the garden shed /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. A place to be somewhere other than at home /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif...... where I can also unwind and just contemplate the ever burning mystery of life. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I wish they would segregate power from sail. Nothing to do with raggies v stinkies. More to do with the fact that if your sitting in your yacht cockpit, sandwiched between 2 slab sided modern motor boats you can't see a thing. As to getting booze delivered to your boat, why on earth would you want to do such athing in this country? It's far too expensive. Get yourself to Cherbourg or St Vaast where they deliver to your boat anyway.

No - I reckon that marinas should be segregated in an entirely different way. The car parks should be fitted out with power and water link ups, and all boats that dont ever go to sea should be put there. They could be surrounded by some imitation waves to improve the view, and supplied with dinghies on wheels for going to the pub and shop.

Then the sea going boats wouldnt have to pay half as much for a proper berth.

Its quite simple really.....that is of course if we are discussing the UK marinas! Mobos to the right.....and Yotties to the left!.......and some where they meet is the dividing line!

Wow, miserable............... Who has p**ssed on your fireworks then? Couldn't have been a woman, we don't do such things /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Perhaps a special marina for grumps??
