Do you talk to your boat

Recently I saw an elderly farmer get on his yacht & they (he & the boat) had a long conversation & i thought he was barking mad

However, I suddenly realised that when i go on board I just cannot help saying "hello" & asking how she is (the boat that is)
When I am sailing SH I often discuss what we should do & I wonder if I am loosing some marbles

Are others on talking terms with their boat?

I didn't talk to the boat but did listen for unusual noises which normally means something is wrong or broken, those sounds would also wake me up. I could also sense if a ship was close when asleep and get up to talk to Jane about it, neither she nor I know how I did that.

I normally say hello, how are, sorry for not giving her more attention. I sometimes swear at her too....

All perfectly normal.

However, I am sure all the inmates in an asylum think it is normal to talk to yourself/trees/cars/imaginary friends......

Of course, very sad situation when a man does not talk to his boat. And listen too!

I agree with listening for the unusual noise.
SWMBO looks a bit odd when I, with impaired hearing, ask what that creak, groan, scrape, funny tinkle was.
Complains that I do not seem to hear her quite so easily, or respond.

Me asking to turn the radio down to hear the engine or the boat seems to be totally unreasonable.

And how can anyone not hear and estimate the engine revs and realise we are running too fast for any benefit?
Or respond to water pump cycling when someone has left a tap dripping?

For longer journeys I have a little song that I sing as we go down the river and out to sea.

Also I do introduce strangers, they think I'm telling them the name of the boat. Really I'm presenting them to the boat and hoping that she will like them.

No. Ive sent it to Coventry for being rude to me. In any case it hasnt got much of interest to say. Just endless moaning about why every other boat has new sails and it has old ones.

I don't talk to the boat but I do talk and often shout at myself for doing daft things. I recognised a while ago that this constant calling myself an idiot was not doing me or my moral any good at all. So last year I made a big effort to be positive. For instance, when I drop the spinnaker over the bow, I congratulate myself on a magnificent tactic to wash the the thing as well as just getting it down. Can't keep the irony out of my voice though but I am working on it. Keep smiling and congratulate myself solving the boats constant attempts to belittle my known sailing prowess.

I told her last week that she's very beautiful and I love her dearly but if she didn't stop costing me so much money, she'd have to go. :(
