Trim tabs that is looking at a merry fisher 925 the other day seller says trim tabs not needed what you guys think

Does the seller have a degree in naval architecture, or is he trying to tell you that they are not working properly ?

They make a lot of difference to fore and aft, and lateral, trim - which is what they are designed for - and hence speed, fuel consumption, steering, chine riding...

There was a thread about merry fishers and trim tabs a while ago.

I hardly use mine at all these days, since I put 60 M of anchor chain in the bow.

They are very handy for dropping the bows in head seas, then lifting it for following ones.

Depends how much serious boating you do I suppose.

... or has he owned the boat for a while and not noticed a great need for them? Why does he need a degree in Naval Architecture to have an opinion on whether his boat needs trim tabs or not? That's like saying you need to be a doctor to know whether your leg hurts.

Some boats need lots of tab adjustment to keep them level, and to trim the boat depending on conditions, and some don't. Merry Fishers have semi-disp hulls AFAIK, in which case he may well be right that there isn't a great need for them?
