I would say if you single hand then yes it is useful so you do not need to go forward, however if you are normally crewed remember it can be a danger.

I know it is bad practice but sometimes people operating at the front of the boat stop the winch and have to pull /clear chain etc.... If there is a second remote at the back then someone could knock it and get the fingers of the person at the front. I have seen one where you 'activated' the front remote by pressing a button on it which disabled the cockpit remote, but on our benateau it had both and both would work, the rear one did not disable when the front one was in use...

If you're asking what remote I think quite a few of us have fitted winch remotes obtained off eBay like this one.

As to your question, is a button at the helm worth it?

You betcha!

Does that remove the need for a Lewmar control box as well or does the remote box plug into the Lewmar control box?
