Do you have to have your boat name on your boat?

Having spent 2.5 hours doing so the police then informed me that I was liable to a 2000 euro fine for not having the boat name on the transom.

Similar thing happened in the yard we use, a few years ago, IIRC 26 foreign boats were impounded by police for not having name and home port on transom. No fines issued but not allowed to launch until rectified.
