Just wondering, do you go boating in winter? As in, are you a year-round boater? I am one. Sure, I winterize my boat, but not to keep it out of water for the season, but to make sure it function in the colder months too. Maybe I'm just a die-hard boater (or maybe I'm just not right in the head, haha) but cold temperature has never deterred me from boating. To the extent I go boating less during this time of year has more to do with the greater likelihood of bad weather than the colder temperature. Maybe its because I spent part of my childhood in Edmonton, Canada, where subzero temperatures last for up to half the year, so cold weather has never bothered me as much. I just dress more and out I go on the boat. I don't mind looking like a overstuffed polar bear in my heavy jacket and gloves on my boat. My wife roll her eyes at my immunity to winter, but I guess winter has never stopped me from boating.

What about you?

We keep the boat in all year and do a few winter short trips. I hate the cold but I love the emptiness out on the water at this time of year. The scenery is quite stunning on cold, crisp and sunny days. We're gonna try to make more use of the boat this winter with regard to trips out. It's a perfect time to 'keep your hand in' in a much less stressful environment.

We stayed over night Xmas day at Hythe and travelled to Cobbs Quay at Poole on Boxing Day morning. We returned to the Hamble on Tuesday. The photo is on the flat Solent on Tuesday heading back. It doesn't look like a winter photo does it? We only got the new boat in November and the engines are overdue for their first 20 hr service. Boating over the winter is often calmer, quieter and more beautiful than any other time of the year.

Agreed, some of the nicest days on the boat can be in the winter.

Two different sorts of winter's day:

We usually do but ended up pulling the boat out in November due to some plastic making its way into the leg through the oil seals.

We had planned to have her out for a month or so after the Christmas break so have just extended the period we are out. Its now paid up until the beginning of March!

Cant wait to get back on the water.

I work abroad month on month off so if i didnt boat in the winter it would be a very short summer season for me.
You get some fantastic crisp clear days on the Clyde with not a ripple on the water, my favourite days out.
The boat has all the comforts of home, hot water, heating and even electric blankets, a must for winter boating!

Electric blankets Barry ? Safty !

Only on the boat George, not at home.

I have to admit there is jothing like crawling into a warm bed on the boat in winter!
I used to send the Mrs in half an hour before me to warm it up, but like so many things that stopped when we got married:(

:encouragement: Like it. We just put the central heating on , pull back the duvet for half an hour before you go to bed and go for some of the Single Malt type heating a few hours before that !

Lovely day yesterday, was out for about 5 hours including lunch.
Saturday I just used the boat as a taxi in the evening, took her the 1/2 mile to the yacht club for dinner, then back to the marina, then stayed on board. Saved parking and I don't have to worry about plod.

It mad to pay all the money for a boat and use it part of the year in my book.

My first winter with boat, I've been out more than a few times. No point winterising, then I can make use of any fine days as and when they happen. Went for a cruise on Sunday, perfect conditions.

Spotted a large ship parked on Bramble bank...some sight to behold up close and personal.
