As the title really, have the 1998 release model and it needs a service but for an extra 40 quid I'm inclined just get a whole new pump unit.

Especially after watching this:

More flushing will help to reduce the calcium carbonate build up. It is the result of not flushing away the pee adequately.

As Vic says, it will fit and in my experience it transforms the toilet.
The only other weakness are the hinges. They break all too easily. However I’ve got plans on screwing additional blocks to the underside of the seat to make the seat locate itself onto the toilet bowl.

There’s something at the back of my mind from when I swapped an older pump for the newer T&L on a previous boat. IIRC it fitted fine, but wasn’t a direct swap in that one of the inlet or outlet positions or angles had changed by just enough to necessitate a new pipe. I can’t remember detail I’m afraid, but it wasn’t an insurmountable problem.

For the common white painted wood seat of the Jabsco, does a standard domestic metal hinge fit? Toilet Seat Hinges 2 Pack - Screwfix . Also available in stainless steel from AliExpress

you may need to fit plastic supports under the rear of the seat.

If it's that old (ie not very) it may be worth checking if there is a syphon break in the right places, and putting one in while you are changing the pipes anyway, if that is the case.

Yes you can fit standard toilet seat Hinges, we did this.
Likely you will have to drill new holes in the seat and fill the old ones.We also packed the bolts passing through the bowl with some bushings made of hose to make them more secure.
Stainless ones would be worth it. Our replacement ones corroded and failed a few years later.

But flushing fills the holding tank too quickly so minimal flushing is the rule, therefore pipes and joker valve need replacing sooner.

I removed my Jabsco electric pump and fitted a new twist and lock pump in 2020 and it's still in use and seems fine. The manual pump is superior to the Jabsco electric pump conversion.
I have no idea how long the manual pumps last but suspect several years if lightly used. The twist and lock pump in my first boat never needed attention in the six years we owned the boat. While the now removed electric pump conversion did need service after a couple of years use.
I see the twist and lock pumps are now about £80 while I paid £65 in 2020.
The service kit is £37.

It was far easier and quicker to fit the compete pump and less messy than fitting a service kit so I would say the extra £43 is worth considering for an item that potentially lasts several years.
