DIY Prodder (Small Bowsprit) Query

About 600mm for a 38 foot racer. Has anyone made and fitted one? Design ideas please.

I designed and fitted one to a 10m cruiser. It isn't terribly long, just enough to clear the pushpit and bi-colour. The sprit is 52mm stainless, forward end is blanked with a loop on the end for the tack line (cruising chute). I have a stainless collar with a delrin insert fitted to the bow roller and a fitting consisting of a stainless plate with two vertical plates, bolted to the deck. The vertical plates are drilled to take a drop nose pin that goes through one of two holes in the sprit, one for extended and one for retracted.

Thanks for the reply. I can't have anything across the foredeck however. It will have to attack to the stem itself and sides of bow (anchor locker)

Could you move it from one side to the other so the pole was angled to windward like an RS400? I think this could work well with a yacht that wants to broad reach. It would also be putting the down force from the heel of the sprit into the gunwhale rather than the middle of the deck.

I'd prefer it fixed really

If you don't want a pole across the foredeck you may need to build more of an A-frame to get enough strength, have a look at the www.trogear.com website for some ideas on how you could attach one.

It is! and quite easy to fab up in ss, possibly hinged to the toe rail. Strop to an eyebolt lower down and a lanyard to the pullpit to keep it up. (This would allow you to drop it, in case your marina sees a length/fee hike..)

I have a removable bowsprit fixed to the centre web of my twin bow fitting attached boa a fork welded to the SS tube and held in place with 2 16 mm dia drop nose pins

If it is hollow and you can run the tack line through it (a la Selden sprit) when you need to get at the anchor you just release it and push it back clear along the tack line, can't go far.
