Displaying her name

I'm in the process of purchasing a classic boat, and in an attempt to take my mind off the scary hassley parts, and think about something pleasant and light-hearted, I began to think about the name.

The boat doesn't seem to be displaying her name anywhere anymore. Of course, I could just be failing to be observant, but I couldn't see it anywhere... which got me thinking... where would be a novel and attractive place to display a name? The obvious ones don't seem to work on this particular boat - she has a counter stern, with barely any transom, and the little she does have is quite steeply raked toward the water. I don't think it would look right on her bows... so any other ideas?

I suspect I just missed where her name is, in actual fact, but it's an interesting thought? I'm looking for places and means of displaying a boats name, sympathetic to a 1920s yacht, but ideas for any kind of craft would be interesting. Some wood carving maybe... or on the aft cockpit coaming...

Please inspire me!

I think the possibilities are two, really.

Carved name boards on each side of the coach roof, aft, more or less in line with the hatch, work quite well. There used to be a converted WSOD at Walton called, as I recall, HYACINTH, which adopted that approach, and very handsome she looked, too.

She has old style guardwires throughstanchions so you could go in for cockpit dodgers with the name on.

I think you may find the name and port of registry on the counter, for the benefit of literate fish, like Colchester smacks!

If the boat has bulwarks, these can be used for displaying her name, but other wise I cannot improve on Mirelle's suggestion. And for God's sake choose a decent name if you cannot find it's original one! If there is an Official Number carved into the structure of the boat, you may be able to trace the original name through Lloyd's Register.
Peter.

She does already have a name - quite a nice one in fact - and I think Mirelle is right about the name boards either side of the hatch, I've seen a picture of her with exactly such boards on. However, I can't remember seeing them when I went to look at her.

Now where did I put that set of artists chisels?

SWMBO's uncle is a retired fisherman who now spends his time turning wood... and using his new toy which is a table router and a cunning bit of kit that allows him to trace lettering etc. to the router.

He made name boards for my boat as an exercise and as I didn't have for'ard nav. lights the board doubles as a bases for them. They now sit ahead of the mast on the coachroof.

The only other place the name appears is on the cork life belts either side of the cockpit.
