You would think that, wouldn't you? Our experience buying our present boat however provides a counter-example. The broker, part of a well known brokerage company, was utterly ignorant of the distinction between joint ownership (where all the owners jointly own the whole boat), and co-ownership with defined shares. It was only by dealing directly with the sellers, whom I knew well, that we were able to correct the broker's error. In this instance, in my opinion they made their commission under false pretences.

You would hope so. When purchasing my last boat we discovered that the broker had omitted to get one of the co-owners to sign the Bill of Sale when the seller had purchased the boat I was now buying. It took a fair bit of unravelling...
The problem, I suppose, is how do you track down a broker like John who never ever makes mistakes.
