Easy to be wise after the event and I've no intention to sound trite but if I had a boat/engine combination worth several k I think I'd have made at least made some attempt at chain/padlock. One has to hope that your insurance company doesn't take a similar view.
If they do, they do - I’m not living my life in ‘fear’.

I suspect you will find the dinghy sans engine. The Torqueedo's are light and valuable.

Does your tender have the name of your boat plastered to it's tubes. Mine has the name very firmly attached and even if they were removed you would never be able to hide the name.

A damned nuisance, and the culprit is beneath all contempt.

I suppose it must be nice to sail in a place where one doesn't instinctively pull the tender and engine aboard overnight.

Is it possible to buy (or fabricate with cleverness) a looped wire dinghy/engine painter that will set off an alarm if the loop is broken?

It's occurred to me before that some kind of disguise cowling to make a Torqeedo look like an old battered outboard would be a useful product!

My thoughts too...although it's also great just having an old outboard. Either way, it must be smart to personalise kit indelibly.

I suppose something like a raymarine lifetag secreted on the dinghy would work but would mean having the base station powered up and working batteries in the tag. And what do you do when awoken to see your dinghy disappearing into the night, unless you have the firepower to affect events...

still no sign of it then , i guess if it had " floated " away it would have been found by now ..:(
No - but I believe in my knot so not really surprised. Been pleasantly surprised though by engagement of harbour master, Falmouth coast guard, local police and insurance company - maybe just pr but do a good job of giving impression they give a damn.

I’m also in Salcombe, on the pontoon in the Bag, just got up to see all the boats bathed in a very bright light from a boat a few hundred meters away, not sure why, but maybe a security check? Unfortunately Salcombe has had theft problems in the recent past, iirc it was about this time last year that lots of boats were relieved of their outboards and cast adrift:mad:
I hope you get your tender and engine back.

Do Torqeedo implement security on their outboards? I'd have thought that for the money it would be relatively easy to implement some sort of PIN lock or digital security fob.
You'd think so, wouldn't you. My robot lawn mower sends a message to my phone if someone picks it up, and also has a GPS tracking feature to recover it if it is stolen. It also uses a PIN number. It cost a lot less than a Torqueedo; you wouldn't think it would be difficult for these outboards to include those sort of features. Maybe they do.

Fingers crossed that you recover boat and motor.

I wish they did, but no they don't; neither do their main competitor E Propulsion. I am at loss to understand why some form of PIN identification could not be cheaply built in.

You would think so - particularly as the Torqueedo already has gps built in for range management. But from looking for a replacement it doesn’t look as even the more recent 1103 model has this.

Crap way to start the day - our Zodiak 2.6m dinghy and Torqueedo stolen from a Salcombe visitors mooring last night, and to top it off the water taxi isn’t answering so I am not getting my pains aux chocolat!
It may be a coincidence but I’ve just gone past a zodiac with a torqueedo on the island dinghy pontoon. I will take a closer look later, and pics if that helps. Let me know by pm.

That's promising prehaps someone borrowed it to get back to their boat leaving their own tender for their crew mates to use.

Thanks LJS - yes, had a call from harbour master an hour or so ago saying the same - they are going to go over and send me a pic, so that should hopefully settle it, but I am very grateful to you for loooking out.
