To get better tv reception in marina is it possible to get a digital system to run on boat ? As experts said you can get 100% reception even with a coat hanger aerial .Is this bullshit as was cd s, could be used as frisbees and drinks coasters without damage !

Being involved with RF. and digital stuff I suspect that with digtal tv you will either get an excellent picture or none at all.Installers have been reporting that leaves on trees have prevented any reception at all.Hence seasonal TV.

Problem with digital gear is that if signal is lost the thing tends to shut of while it searches for the signal again then it takes a second or two to establish the picture again. Hence the drop outs or lock ups that you sometimes get on Sky. Marinas are the worst place to get good tv because all those tall aluminium masts cause millions of reflected signals. They should all be made to cut them down and get an engine like the rest of us sensible people. Cant marinas get a deal from somewhere to provide sky via hard wire to pontoons maybe with a slot meter or something. Anyway we go boating to get away from bloody Coronation Street dont we.

Knowing something about digital technology (I work in the industry) and owning a Digital TV, I can confirm much of what's been said here already. DTV is great (perfect picture and sound) when it works and crap when it doesn't.

Remember there are 3 basic types of Digital TV in the UK; Satellite (ala SKY); Terestrial (ie received through a regular TV antenna) or cable.

Re availability in the Marina, I doubt that you could get a SKY dish well enough aligned without spending a fortune, Terestrial will depend on the coverage in the Marina (check with http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/index.html) if you know the postcode. Cable would be the most sensible but I doubt veryu much if any UK marina would provide a hook up (you can get these throughout the US).

If you realy fancy it, try getting a local aerial installer down to your boat - he can do a coverage check and advise if it's a reality or not.

Re: Digital tv CN

and you can't get a signal when it's raining heavily.
Start a campaign to have cable at almost every marina mooring like wot we 'ave 'ere in the US..... and whilst you are about it, ask for a phone hookup like wot we 'ave 'ere too. No extra charge either, 'cept for long distance calls and pay-per-view. Some places have room service to your boat.

Re: pontoon services

I'm also in favour of having my Campari served on a tray by a long legged beatie on rollerskates. Might look a bit out of place in Ramsgate though.
