Hello all, I took out 40 litres of diesel from my boat tank as a first step to cleaning it. Then uninstalled it, cleaned properly, painted and re-installed it.

A massive "colony" of dieselbug gel came out from that tank when turned up-side-down; although the fuel itsef looks "clean".

Is it ok to reuse the diesel, mixed with dieselbug killer chemicals or am I just gonna sxrew up my tank once again? 40 litres is a lot of diesel (a full season for me !)

Is it worth passing the fuel through some sort of filter? Coffee filters? heheh  other treatments?

If the tank's now clean, and the diesel looks clear, there shouldn't be a danger of blocked filters. However, it would be wise to double-dose the diesel with bug killer to get rid of anything lurking in it.

It is well worth filtering the fuel properly before or as you put it back in the tank. But I'm afraid coffee filters aren't really anything like adequate.
You need to pump it through a proper coalescing filter that removes up to 99% of dissolved water in the fuel. E.g made by Fleetguard or similar.
It's OK dosing the fuel with biocide as a short term measure, but if you remove the moisture then there's nothing for the bug to live in so you fix the long term as well.

Think of it as having rats. You can put out traps or poison to kill off what's there, but if you still have food lying around on the ground they'll soon come back.
The best thing is to kill them off with poison as an immediate measure, but also clean up the ground and stop putting food down to prevent further problems.

cheers then, since I have no access to proper filters, I shal run it through the funnel filter and add a "proper" dose of antibacterial stuff that I purchased last week... and hope for the best! many thanks!

That's worked for me - for four years now... Here's hoping fore continued freedom! (I also was advised to 'suck out' a small amount from the bottom of my tank at least once each season using an oil extractor (Pela or similar). Any water will have gathered there ...... I hasten to add that my tank has no drain cock at the lowest point - if yours has, then that's a simpler option.

Sure, mine has one - altough the previous owners most likely never used it! cheers!
