diesel smells

after some advise on removing or masking diesel smell from our aft cabin
- smell from old leak definitely not fumes

The best product is called PUREAYRE from the States, they will send it to you but it is fairly expensive.

Next best is ......ahem ! go to the pet shop and buy the bottle of liquid for removing pet smells after accidents, it dosent smell as good as Pureayre but it is only about £5.00 a bottle. It works by having enzymes that will "eat" the bacteria that produce the smell.

Trust me, just spray it on the diesel spill and leave it.

PS Yes I always have a bottle on board.....

Another reason to smoke fags, masks the smell of whoopsie and diesel while making you look cool.

Interestingly I have the same the problem after removing an old diesel stove. Toilet Duck, I'll give it a go.

Probably an existing leak. Once you fix a diesel leak the smell goes quickly as long as you clean up the spill, bilge, mess. To find leaks talcum powder sprinkled around possible weeping connections works well and so does old newspaper. Superdrug and so on for cheap talcum.

Glade or similar do a plug-in air neutralizer. Hard to find in the shops though as you mostly see the scented ones.

Last time I used the neutralizer type (left on while away from the boat) it worked really well.

Years ago I had a diesel leak and bought some chemical bombs, basically a spray can with a lock-down button. Once you push it it's on till it empty. Breaks down the diesel particles.

Heres a link to my original post and the stuff. (but the glade plug-in worked well too)

Good luck

Pet spray works for us, I've always got a bottle on the boat. Stops smells from the bog pipes. Iv'e also found it stops smells from diesel leaks from cans in the car. Needs about three do's on the carpet though.

We use two small ozone makers that plug into 110vac. They keep the head and forward stateroom smelling fresh. Their size is about 15cm tall and 6cm wide. We use a larger corded version for the salon and holy place. It's about 30cm high x 15cm square. Low power consumption and no diesel smell.
