Probably an existing leak. Once you fix a diesel leak the smell goes quickly as long as you clean up the spill, bilge, mess. To find leaks talcum powder sprinkled around possible weeping connections works well and so does old newspaper. Superdrug and so on for cheap talcum.after some advise on removing or masking diesel smell from our aft cabin

The best product is called PUREAYRE from the States, they will send it to you but it is fairly expensive.
