Just checked red diesel price at the marina and it is currently £1.78 60/40 split , with is the same as our local Esso fourcort for road diesel ! , so no difference now. Is everyone else seeing similar ?. I understand what's going on re oil at the mo but have never seen red diesel the same price as road diesel before .

Thats not bad OG, do they do it on a 60/40 basis ?. It would be interesting to know the tanker price of red now because the building / agriculture industries can't use it anymore . I guess the marinas have taken on the petrol station principal of " up like a rocket and down like a feather ". Anyway, none of us bought these toys to save money :D

London canal price around 1.40 non-propulsion

A mandated split is not legal (tho many try) - try reporting them to HMRC

If white is cheaper, I'll switch. Luckily have a little reserve to last thru April

That is @ 60/40.
somebody filled up with the last of 89p stuff a day or so ago.

On the Norfolk Broads it varies from yard to yard.
But the things to remember are..
Boat yards don't sell anywhere near the amount of fuel a petrol station does, therefore..

They have to pay more themselves, as they buy less..
They have to spread their fixed costs over the fewer gallons sold..

This is a myth. I used to purchase red diesel for a boat yard. It was always cheaper, per litre, to get 500 litres than 5000 litres. If you buy over 2500 litres, you have to pay a higher rate of VAT for a start. Then there is the extra logistics of ordering large quantities.

You're talking about the open market price for a tanker or less.... the Big supermarket chains and fuel station chains have their own deals which get a much bigger discount than would have been offered for a small boat yard what ever the size of tank they had..
