There I was in Yarmouth last weekend, having a good time away with the kids, lovely sunny day, flat calm and WOT all the way there, and a good meal ashore in the evening.
Sunday 3 pm thought I would catch last of flood home to Portsmouth, asked my son to start engines......starboard one was not having any of it!! To cut a long story short, after changing fuel filters and bleeding system she eventually fired up. However, the primary fuel filter was full of very reddish cloudy fuel, not knowing what diesel bug looks like I don't know if this could be rust from my tanks or the dreaded bug!
What do you guys think?

I would describe the contents of my filters as mini frogspawn when I had the damm thing. I also had rust in the primary (metal bowl) presumable as water had collected at the bottom of the bowl and rusted the metal.
Water, bug and rust do seem to go together!

If your boat has stood for a while a burst at Wot will stir all the muck thats been lying in your tank bottom over the winter, the downside of your trip was the stirred up muck ended up in your filter.

Diesel bugs usually look like slime, can be a variety of colours dependant on the name of the bug!!

The bugs will only survive if you have water in the fuel, if poss drain the tank and clean and dose with your choice of biocide or bug suppresant, drain and clean filters.

Hi Paul, i have sent you a PM about another possible solution to your problem.

i have not mentioned the solution here, cos soltron could cause flames to occur.

Do not think that stuff is the diesel lurgy, but the normal sediment which is fine enough to not cause problems until primery filter is totaly blocked which tends to happen over long periods of time if filter not changed. With my boat the engine normally gives advanced warning by not being able to produce full revs, and runs at a fluttery 2/300 rpm down on WOT, but never actually stops or fails to start.
