I must have heard wrong whilst listening to the radio, New Labour are now passing a bill were it will be law not to make jokes about religion! Is this another one that comes out of the hat from this screwed up party? Myself by religion I am supposed to be R.C (Roman Candle!) I didn't give a toss in my school days when I got coated for it at a C of E secondary school.

I remember Dave Allen on TV taking the 'p' of out religion and he was really funny, what New Labour are doing in their crusade of screwing up our country is not! Surely they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel now, how long will it be before a bill will be inforced that restricts us from breathing or breaking wind in public places?

I am afraid that political correctness is getting to the point where now the British people are 3rd rated citizens and merely just servants to our guest's! Remember the Robinsons Marmilade 'Golliwog' ? As a child I loved collecting the tokens for those broaches! Strangely enough I know a couple of 'Affro' guys who did the same thing too when they were kids!

I had some gollywogs too, I never actually associated them with any race until the last few years when they were outlawed/

To me they were just cool statues to collect, my fav was the drummer.

It is the PC police in this case that gave them another meaning, in my case anyway, children have no prejudice, it is taught to them.

Wasn't there a racing yacht called "Robertson's Golly" once? Expect that would cause a stir these days.

A friend of mine was called into school recently to discuss his sons attitude???
It seems he was asked to sing a nursery rhyme in front of the class and stood up to sing Bar Bar Black Sheep, he wouldn’t stop until he had finished it. And continued to sing it for the rest of the day even though the teacher had asked him not too!!!!!!
The head mistress told him that it was one of the songs - rhymes that was now classed as politically incorrect like calling the board a black board and asked if he could have a word with his son to stop him singing this song. My friend pointed out that the board was black and was not made of chaulk to no avail.
The problem here is that his son is only eight and, yes you guessed it, he is black…/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif some people need to get a life or join in with this one, not mentioning that somebody is black wont change their colour the same as not mentioning that somebody is bald doesn’t grow hair.

PC is going mad

While I am certainly no supporter of this ragbag of a Government we are lumbered with, and I fear will be so for the next term as well, what you heard is a proposal to make incitement to hatred of religions an offence. This makes a lot more sense, and reflects our nation's tolerance of religions, race, etc except by those who twist (spin?) such pieces of proposed legislation.

Darn, I'll need to try something else then, perhaps a hat. Anyone who calls me baldy will still get a smack though.

T rather think "distinguished" is the word you're looking for.

Hidden agenda?

Once the principle is established that one cannot criticise certain belief systems, how soon before that is extended from religion to politics? Or maybe they'll just start up the "Church of New Labour" and claim religious privilege?

No wonder TBliar likes the idea!

Claire Francis wasn't it? Now there's a solo-sailing lady - the current lot are just riding on a wave of sponsorship. I thought Francis Chichester was a bit ace too.

I think they paid her a bit to put the name on her boat but wasn't it a Nic 35 from the 60's or similar? Not quite as expensive as a hot tri. It bought her a nice house in Lymington but now she's reduced to writing novels I hear.

she wouldn't have been able to go without sponsors' money, then again nor would i. B&Q shell out a lot more but i think they get a lot more for their money than sponsors did back in the 70's.

This boat was a visitor in Yarmouth Harbour when we were there a couple of years ago - it still had it's light blue hull, and was still called "Robertson's Golly" I thought it must have had something to do with Jimi!

No chance of anything boaty then.

Maybe some minor problem with your boat you need help with or something even vaguely boaty related perhaps, however tenuous, with which to challenge us.
Boating related experiences from which we all can learn are gratefully accepted at any time./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
