Did anyone go sailing today?

Im on a swinging mooring over winter so pleased to look her over, engine started on first turn of the key ( wow) and charge the batteries check the bilges and opened all the hatches, topsides are filthy, she has grown a beard on the waterline and the insides need a clean and two bags of food out of date or close on so some very interesting meals in the next week or so.

I went to Fleetwood 50 miles each way quiet roads , boat was fine after 6 weeks engine started OK took Main down took it to Impact Marine for repair, I asked the lock keeper whether I could go out and checked he would let me back in said yes of course why not he had not had any instructions otherwise. No one went out I plan to go out for the day on Saturday weather looks promising . Hope nobody has any unpleasant problems on returning to their boats after such a long time away.

Well, I just got back and the boat is fine, dry and all nicely closed up, with the batteries showing 13.4V, so the solar and controller are doing their stuff, so I'll have to find something else to worry about now!

I brought a fid back, so I can now replace the lifelines on the flubber which has been lurking in the garage since lockdown started.

Yes, day trip from Wicor in Portsmouth harbour round to anchor for lunch in Stokes bay, no problem, a dozen or so boats out in the east solent, no trouble from the MOD Police launches, nice day out. The yard was keen to launch my boat just before lockdown and I was worried about it sitting on the mooring but the yard kept an eye on it, was able to check it from the shore and now able to sail! The consensus seems to be day sails, anyone staying aboard? marinas not welcoming visitors but anchoring off seems pretty isolating but not strictly within guidelines but are they just guidelines??

Feel a bit guilty writing this, sailed from Chichester to Beaulieu river, now on a bouy and having a drink as the sun sets. Saw just two yachts on the way, Buzzed HMS Queen Elizebeth & got a warning from a guard boat, F4-5 on the quarter, 9kn max with the tide, lovely lovey to get back out, don’t want to go back

Have had a couple of sails this week, windy earlier in the week, simply sublime today. Went to do some varnishing but was just too lovely.

We went down to the boat today, for lunch then my wife gave the engine an oil change. The wind was gusting over 20knots in the marina and would be half as much again at sea so we didn’t have our first sail since lockdown.

Boats still on the hard, but after 8 weeks indoors in semilockdown and BC Marina nagging me to be gone I went to the moorings and rowed up and down looking at unsatisfactory spots with dodgy gear and got covered with usual barnacly mud for my pains. Oyster catchers calling, ducks in the way and wild flowers on the cliffs above. I was like a tiny kid out on a jolly - apart from having to report to mooring officer that nothing even as suitable as old moorings which damaged rudder. And then wharf side cafe sold me a social distance ice cream.

Thankyou "oldman".
You painted a beautiful picture.
I trust you'll be doing the same again tomorrow. :)
