Diamond Jubilee Flotilla

Just received confirmation from St Kats Yacht Hotel, booking confirmed from June 1st to 4th,

It's my Wife's birthday on 3rd, so whether or not we're in the flotsam, er flotilla it's going to be a good weekend!

We received our booking confirmation too - for the 1st - 5th. Should be a great weekend. Thinking I would prefer to watch the flotilla rather than be in it!

We are booked in too and we had exactly the same thought!

We have booked too.....not sure why though1 mainly on you guys say so!

Hey, don't blame us ;-)

I was in St Kats on my parents boat as a 9 year old in 1977 for the Silver Jubilee and there again but on my own boat for millennium eve - great memories from both occasions. Next year our son will be 2, so we're continuing the family tradition :-)

Have to say, i will avoid the area like the plague and watch it on the telly, from my boat somewhere quiet on the Upper Thames.

The thought of trying to navigate under the London bridges with 1000 other boats fills me with horror!

Tee Hee.Something else to worry about for the next 12 months.

"The thought of trying to navigate under the London bridges with 1000 other boats fills me with horror!"

.......and all that wash !

Did think about attempting to stay in "the most Expensive marina in the known universe" but then thought just how bad it is normally trying to get into "the most awkward and disorganised free for all entry melee into a marina under normal circumstances " and thought, stuff that for a game of soldiers. :)

Agreed on St Kats. I'll see if we get an invite to participate before worriting about marina's. If they are really expecting <1000 boats then St Kats, Limehouse and South Dock wont be able to take them all anyway, tide permitting something elaborate at West India may have to be set up, or a lot of folk down to Galleon's Point. Getting into Greenland Dock could help, but not if they all have to use the lock to South Dock to get in:-)

Mmmm How long before we will know if we have a place do you think?

I expect an email about July 2012 teling me that they are grateful for the interest but that all available places were taken up by corporate charter boats or those doing Olympic things and sady, I was not one of the ten private boats from the House of Commons Yacht Club invited after getting lucky in the draw.

I plan to give the organisers a phone call at the end of May. If the organisers are serious they should welcome as many private boats as they can get, and possibly specific invitations to clubs and organisations. ADLS, ATYC boats etc over a tripper full of suits on a jolly any day, or at least that's how I wouild see it.

"There are rumours of a painting in the lazarette..."

as well as 1 x generator,a battery charger, two boathooks, one thingy for picking up bouys, assorted rags/ropes/fenders,odd bits of pipe that may come in useful one day,a BBQ stand,5 dangerous fold up chairs for when I finally get some friends, spare impellors/filters,2 shiney long bits of 2" stainless steel,3" of river water and a stinky holding tank.
