Does anyone know if there is anything on that should be avoided next week in the Exmouth to Falmouth area ? As the weather is too awful in the Midlands I'm escaping to Kingsbridge tomorrow for a few days and don't want to end up amongst crowds if I can help it.

My bruv is in Falmouith right now, it's classic week, lifeboat day tomorrow and something else, yes, regatta! There's not a mooring/berth/spot to be had. he's on the lifeboat mooring, (fine as he has an ex lifeboat and knows the coxn very well!)Dartmouth regatta at the end of the month, etc, etc. so it's a bit busy down there at the moment. Brixham too I think.

It's just starting I believe, but I will find out for you tomorrow, when I phone. But I'm pretty sure, from my time down in Dartmouth, that it gets very busy down the west country at this time of year.

Yes, I know, it's why I try to avoid going down there in August. But it looks like being much fresher down there for the next few days than it is up here. I suppose I'll just have to put up with all those other sailors enjoying themselves. Wish they'd all go to the Med and annoy you.

Nah! You keep em! It's really quiet down in Mallorca, I'm glad Germany is in recession! They're staying at home! Off to Sardinia in ten days, so we'll see how busy that is.

Re: Good news

Fortunately, everyone is hiding in sainsbury's as they have decent airconditioning. Well, a blimmin sight better than other places, including the Savoy which had rubbish or even zero aircon last night. So i ripped into the head waiter and toldim it was shite. I did say I didn't mean to be too horrid but there agin, I'm also complaining on behalf of everyone else who wasn't complainng, as being nearly dead or american they're hardly likely to say a word. Then they said it was busted and nothing they could do, so i exploded attem some more and sed that aircon is important innit, so they should have more than one system and even my blimmin boats got two systems for crissakes. So they sed sorry again and i calmed down BUT toldem that if someone rings to ask if you have aircon expect them (me anyway) to go a bit bonkers like i did when they arrive to find that the aforementioned aircon is non-functioning.

Ahem, well, anyway, i hear that devon and cornwall is completely deserted cos it being in UK, you know, so all the eateries are a bit rubbish, and even tho the weather is ok now it is bound to chuck it down soon if not right now. So they have all stayed at home and there is loads of room.

Re: Good news

You're tellin' porkies!! it's wall to wall or rather bank to bank boats down there! I totally agree about the AC a place like the savoy with only one system, criminal, they should only charge half price!

Re: Good news

Actually, he's only telling partial porkies. We went from Kingsbridge on this am. tide and anchored off Looe beach, then went to Plymouth. Mayflower Marina had lots of space on the outer pontoon. Unfortunately, cafe/bar can't provide food between 2pm & 7pm - and that's in the height of Summer !! Called at QAB to find that they've removed all the finger pontoons on the stbd. side as you go in - opposite the visitors berths, so lots of room, or it appeared so. Something presumably must be going on - when's the Fastnet ? Got a rollicking for going into Sutton Harbour when red lights were on. Honestly couldn't tell that either sets of lights were on when we approached - must have been the angle of the sun.
Salcombe pretty busy though.
