Seriously Alf how long will you be on the job, and are there any cheap hotels locally?
I might be tempted if I can persuade SWMBO that this is not an internet date and she gives me enough pocket money.
I'll start planning my work etc. this WE, but in principle will not be in any rush to start the job, which will due to the location (engine in the boat) not be completed in a short week-end...
Hotels, like Premier Inn are one of the options, as is B&B's .... I will probably stay on the boat if it is not too cold and I can probably offer up a cabin on-board ... may be a bit less comfortable than other options, but marina's facilities are pretty good....
If I do this work in a couple of stages (not sure about that yet as I may take time off and do this more concentrated), you need to think a bit about which part of the job you'd be most interested in ... or all of it... so if I split it up into chunks (assuming that I will prep engine, drain oil and fluids out before the real work starts)... sort of thinking along the lines of....
1) Disassembly of major items (Turbo, intercooler, exhaust manifolds, filter stacks, oilpan, and disconnect the fuel system)
2) Remove Cylinder Head, remove pistons and liners (at this stage I'll find out if liners are damaged and new parts are required)
3) Replace piston rings, insert pistons into liners and insert into block, fix and torque conrod clamshells, install cylinder head & Torque up....
4) Re-assembly of major items and fill up liquids
5) Engine tune-up (Injector timing, exhaust valve clearance, idle setup etc.... and that all important start-up).
So there you have it .... make your pick ...
