When on the sea trial, the Raymarine Tridata depth gauge wasn't giving a reading and was stuck on "Calibrating". An idea what could be casing this?

That's tongue in cheek J, 'innit?Surprised that was not grounds for rejection!

It's such a small issue, thar you're likely to find worse problems even in brand new boats...!

No, Pete is a hard man. Several experienced yacht brokers have given up the business and gone into therapy after having dealt with Pete![]()
Indeed and we'd already chipped off a few £k during the sea trial. If I'd suggested a further discount for the depth gauge not working I think the broker would have thrown me off the boat!
Pete. If it is broken I have a spare. I have bought a new one but only need the locking ring part. Am in the process of trying to sort different part
Thanks, I'm hoping that it's just got stuck in some calibration mode and disconnecting it will fix it.
Failing that, then I suppose it could be the transducer. Is the part you bought a AIRMAR P79? Do you know if it can be replaced whilst in the water?

Does anyone know if the sounder can be swapped whilst the boat is in the water?
Bluetooth knows, he already told you the answer in #12 ...
the P79 is fixed in the hull and not though the hull. When you take it out ( unscrew and lift) make sure that the oily medium( propylene glycol antifreeze is recommended) which sits in the bottom of the housing stuck to your hull, needs to be covering the downward face of the sender.
Thanks Mike, is it possible that there's insufficient antifreeze in there and if I pour some more in it might start to work?
Pete
Hi Pete
yes it could, it needs to have no air pockets whatsoever between the sender head and the seawater beneath the boat so the liquid used need to be the correct amount (71 ml) to cover the head facing downwards. Sometimes air bubbles in the actual GRP can distort/prevent the reading. The original liquid might have leaked out or not have been filled properly and also check the orientation of the head mine is a 20 degree angled hull and the marks on the unit reading 20degree need to line up otherwise it could be looking at a totally wrong angle. I doubt its the latter if the previous owner fitted it properly.http://www.airmartechnology.com/uploads/InstallGuide/17-217-01.pdf
