I am trying to work out volume of 1kg of resin but getting conflicting figures from internet search. Any figures will help me not to over order.

You don't tell us which particular resin you will be using but the technical data sheet for the resin you plan to use should tell you the specific gravity of the liquid resin
For example, I went to the East Coast Fibreglass Supplies website ( because they are a firm I have previously dealt with). Chose one of the polyester resins they offer at random and down loaded the data sheet

Do the same.
Go to your chosen suppliers website, or the resin manufacturer's website, and down load the data sheet for the resin you plan to use.
You will find loads of other useful information and "how to" guides on a good suppliers website like ECF

For the purposes of ordering resin quantity the data sheet linked by Vic shows 1.12 sg. That means 1 litre of resin will weigh 1.12 Kg or 1 kg of resin will be .89 litre. I am guessing that most polyester resins will be a similar SG. But you will need to order extra for wastage anyway. ol'will

We don't have any details of the lay-up the OP is planning.
We don't know how much f/g the OP is planning to do but if you calculate you may use 15L then buy a 20L drum as it has quite a long shelf life (years) and it is always good to have in stock.
