the cost are almost working out the same to deliver my boat to spain by sea or road i dont have the time or experience to sail it there my self. which would you think would be the best bet thinking about a april/may and looking at my boats stats is the boats displasment its full weight 5,500kg thanks David

Weight is largely irrelevant if going by road. Height is the main constraint - and don't think that is a problem if you use a proper boat transport company.

Personally, as I have already suggested I would use road as zero wear and tear on the boat and it will be there and ready to use in less than a week. Also gives you the opportunity to get the rigging checked and a condition report should your insurance company ask for it.

When I was considering the same question, I was told that the best way to do it is to sail to France, put it on a truck there and launch in the South of France saving a lot of border crossing hassles and taxes. In the event I bought a boat in Spain which was MUCH easier!

If the costs are similar why not get it delivered by sea and go along for the experience. A voyage across Biscay for the 1st time is very memorable and great if you are prudent with your weather window. You'll gain invaluable experience and can get involved as much as you want. Use a decent company - I would recommend PYD - I used to first mate for them and found their skippers to be excellent. It's a great opportunity good luck

Exactly what I did with PYD. I appreciate the time limits but the boost to your confidence makes it worth it. 6 days from north Wales to northern Spain in a 33 footer. Great skipper and brill first mate. Very professional.

When I looked at road costs it was double the delivery costs plus the rig costs.
