DEKPA question

The trick I found with Preveza PP was to wait until the immaculately preened men go out looking for offences and then go to the office where the women will be delighted to help you without interference. Probably works across the rest of Greece too.

So I walked into the PP in Gouvia last week armed with crew list, passports, photo copies of everything & ships papers prepared for a lengthy & expensive challenge....

As suspected, no cruising permits in stock.... "Do you have the old one?" I was asked ..... I presented the old one, he crossed out the old name, wrote on the new name & stamped it. Likewise the owner details. He didn't want to see any passports or the crew list ...whole thing took less than 4 minutes and didn't cost a thing

Who'd have guessed..... well Tony did in post #10 :)

I am very happy it all when so well for you , but you know what , another day another PP and every thing could has been so very different , that's the thing about Greece .

Funny you say that , just a few weeks ago I went in to get my stamp and expecting to pay 15 euros to enter back into Greece , the guy insisted I didn't have the right insurance , 500000 PLI kept saying it had to be in EURO and not GBP three time he retuned to say he was right and I was wrong , the last time he came out with a female , who apologise for the miss understand , told him to stamp the card and off I went . So yes maybe the female PP are better to deal with then the men .

Pleasantly surprised how straightforward it was getting a DEKPA today. Went to the Port Police office in Lefkas who sent me around the corner to pay 29.35 euros at the tax office. Then back in Port Police office and got Dekpa, took about 30 minutes in total

Visited PP in Nidri other day to obtain the now yearly stamp , asked for insurance ect and noticed the older third party claim amounts were still on paperwork , the very pleasant PP lady gave me the PP email and said just get ins company to email me the document . Quick call home and the documents were emailed both to me and Pp so I went back I to office and there it was , PP opened email ,printed off document for me and one for them to err err well to put in a lever arch file somewhere I suppose never to see the light of day again ,anyway all done and dusted in a few minutes and I now have the PP ladies email .Things are moving forward .

At last your on the go , enjoy I bet Cathy has the vino out already . :)

We got our first DEKPA in Lefkas about 10 days ago, the only problem we had was that we had to pay an additional fee of €15 in the bank, in the same building, which was of course closed by the time we gave all our details to the Harbour Masters. So a second visit was required.

We bought a boat in Greece four years ago. We changed her name so assumed we'd need a new DEKPA. No problem getting one (in Preveza, which is probably very familiar with boats changing hands).

Mildly surprised to hear of the system's being computerised: PP and microchips seem very unlikely bedfellows.

As of last year, most PP offices were being fitted with new PCs, to use this database in Piraeus.
The subsequent changes may or may not have affected this, though at that time the PP had no responsibility for collecting cash. Under the latest scheme I believe they'll be expected to take the registration money, though local harbour dues will be collected by non-PP locals.
Whatever happens, the costs of cruising Greece are about to rise, even if an inveterate anchorer.
In the OP's case, I'd go along with the current DEKPA and see the responsible watch-keeper in the local PP office.
If they have some DEKPAs and he has all the necessary paperwork (bill of sale etc) they'll probably issue him with a new DEKPA - paying the issue fee will probably involve a visit to the local tax office and payment in cash (they have no means of taking anything else). Perhaps obtaining a Greek Tax # would be a sensible action. Very useful for many other official interactions!!

I don't think your far off wrong there , it been changing slowly for some years , so slow most have not notices it , don't be suprise to see mooring buoy in bay where you have to pay and anchoring stopped in others in the next few years .

That is Vic, going too far in your imagination. Though it has happened in Croatia... there are just so many Greek anchorages.
Except, perhaps in most of the Ionian, and those popular Aegean islands, where the ports and marinas are already in place. You mustn't forget all the locals who make a living from wayterborne visitors.
But Spinalonga, Sigri Bay, Diapori, Kalloni Gulf, Kardamyli, Mesta, Kallamoti, to mntion a few - no.

Well we just returned , today , from a 2 month cruise from Kefalonia around the Cyclades , via the Peloponissos and in over 1k miles was asked for my Dekpa ....................... once !
by a very pleasant PP as we tied up under his office window in Katapoula , Amorgos .
I was politely informed that it was out of date , to which I replied that the PP in Tinos told me it was good for 5 years , 2 years ago !
"I will investigate , thank you " we left 2 days later , with no further contact .
So stop worrying about Dekpa , its not popular with anyone !
sailing in Greece is absolutely wonderful , full of adventure , good people ( mostly ) and full of great enjoyment , we love it !
