Certainly didn't have any when I was there in 2010. I think they cant be bothered with the paperwork. As Vic says try Preveza.

Neither Corfu Town nor Gouvia had any in 2014. I asked the helpful Officer in Gouvia if she could write something on one of the forms to say that I had tried to obtain one. She wrote something in Greek on a form ...... but that form turned out to be one that she kept rather than me. I gave up at that point and just stayed on Corfu!

To get a new DEKPA now is easy, assuming they have some in stock but you must first find a local council office or "ken" (as it appears on the signs), pronounced "kep". Here you must get an e-paravolo which costs about 23E, which you pay at one of the banks that can accept the payment (some can, some can't). There's a kep in Ermioni and a bank very close to it where you can pay it. Then go to the PP with the rest of your docs, my understanding is insurance, passport, ICC, crew list, the more the merrier really and they'll give you a DEKPA if they have any. I think the reason for the e-paravolo is that the PP have been stopped from taking any monies, for anything. For my efforts in respect of the above last October and in the absence of actual DEKPAs I was rewarded with some sort of cover letter from the PP in Porto Heli, dunno what it says 'cos it's in Greek, presumably something along the lines of he showed willing but we'd run out...:)

It's never has been hard to get DEKPA ,
long as you say they got one in stock ,
there not a football game on ,
the PP had his fourth cup of coffee ,
his in a good mood
and you don't mind waiting an hour or so while he fiddles about in book and stamp bits of paper .
Oh don't forget , if you haven't got the right money , it may be best to tell then to keep the change or you might be there for another half an hour while it's found . :)

So in the end, I sailed the boat from Aegina to Lefkas. Passed the Corinth Canal without problems. They weren't interested in the Dekpa. In Lefkas town I went to the port police with all my paperwork. The lady behind the desk started making trouble asking me where I came from with the boat, but then a male officer jumped in. He spoke some Greek and then proceeded to cross out the name of the old owner, replaced it with my details and put a lot of stamps over it. He then made copies of everything, including my passport.
Job done in 10 minutes. No charge. All very nice.

That means no new dekpa available in Lefkas either.

Illegal procedure. Crossing out and replacing.

Minimum 5000 € fine. I send you my account number.

Hi Old,
Perhaps the police officer who made and stamped the amendmends will be fined. I'm quite relaxed about it..??

Tony, thanks. Your predictions in reply #10 proved spot on ??

We got ours in Preveza- PP were friendly and helpful, even gave us a little map of how to find the tax place. Didnt take too long at all...

We got ours in Preveza, too. PP were a bunch of misogynist dipsticks. It took ages. So Preveza is evidently in Greece.
(This was four years ago so no bearing on current availability of DEKPAS.)

The last time we were in Preveza port police office was when we needed a permit to haul out at the end of season, about five years ago. At the time of our visit a grand prix was on TV, of far greater interest to those present than our little matter. They told us to go away as the yard would issue the permit, a blatant lie that the yard confirmed on the following day.

I have a related Dekpa question.
Our boat is currently in italy, on the ionian coast. we will be moving to Greece next week where we have a berth booked for a year in Lefkas. on the way down we will stop in Orthoni, Gouvia, Parga etc. Do we need to pick up a Dekpa in Gouvia, or will we be taking a big risk if we wait until we reach Lefkas?

We have been reading this forum avidly for the last few years, whilst making our plans to escape. Always entertaining and usually enlightening! so thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Jon
You can try and pick up a DEKPTA in Gouvia , I understand the new female PP officer there has been very help full last year ,
As far as how risky it is to no bother to pick one up till you get to Lefkes , in my view , very little , the most I every heard happen in the 18 years we sailed in Greek is if caught you will be told to go to where every to get one . Off cause that my view , in realty you are suppose to get one as soon as you enter Greece .
The likely hood of being stop as long as you dont go onto a Marina or a Harbour wall is almost Zero .
You pay your money and take you chances , as they say .

If you've a berth booked in Lefkas, then that's where I'd sort out the paperwork. When we first arrived in Greece we found that the marina office was very helpful in getting the payments sorted out: I seem to recall that they took the tax money and provided a receipt for the PP rather than us having to visit the tax office. As others in this thread have said, the most interesting thing to see is if the PP in Lefkas has any DEKPAs....... I really wouldn't worry too much about the whole business as, unless things have changed over the winter, the PP are generally pretty laid back about things. Just be polite with them and they'll do their best not to get in the way of you spending money locally.
