Do they need any servicing or cleaning from one year to the next please?!

Thanks for any replies

yes, definitely.

You can DIY

air filter (usually fine plastic mesh, and detachable)
condenser pipes (wipe with weak bleach to kill any adhering bugs, then wash down with plain water)
fan blades (they accumulate dust)
water container and/or drain pipe (the most likely place for bacteria to develop. Wash thoroughly in bleach, then rinse and return)

You are unlikely to be able to re-gas the system IF it needs it. This should be done by a service shop with the right kit.

If the AC produces warm, dry air, and water is dripping off the condenser coils, then it is working properly and will not need re-gassing.

fair enough. My abridged typing. 10 years in the gulf, and anything which modifies the ambient atmosphere is labelled A/C.

To be fair A/Cs work in the same way, but instead of exhausting the warmed air to the inside of the room or cabin, they shove it outside - which makes the ambient even hotter. :)

Sorry.
