Dehler 31 porthole leak

I've just bought a Dehler 31, my first yacht. The portholes leak. Can someone tell me where I can find replacements for the rubber seals?

The stores guy does speak moderate English and does his best to help. I did get an invoice for someone else's goods once, but this was an accident and when I pointed it out in my fractured German, they apologised.

Don't mention the war....

Good choice of boat by the way. I have a tichy D22, but it sails a treat.

we are proud owners of a 34 - congrats on yours - our ports are lewmars and so far are watertight - the plastic/acrylic or whatever they are made of has crazed and we got replacement of that from seateach at emsworth - might we worth trying them if yours are lewmar bits - good luck

I will be sending my hatches to them on a recommendation from a friend. Will probably be cheaper than Lewmar direct and they keep stock. Lewmar can take forever to supply parts.

Lewmar have their own on-line store on their website too. It's the cheapest I've found for Lewmar bits. Watch out for the postage costs though.

I had the same type of porthole on my Optima 101 (aka Dehler 34 Mk1) and they leaked as well.

They consist of two disks of perspex/polycarbonate, which are pulled together by the central knurled knob. This 'squashes' the clear gasket that is sandwiched between them outwards, so forming a seal. After a few years the disks become permanently distorted and touch in the centre, effectively preventing any further squashing.

I had a local plastics machining company make me up some new ones quite cheaply. I refitted them with the old gaskets. Cured the problem.

THe Marina Grossenbrode have the parts you need (amongst almost every other part you might need...)

Mine is Optima 101 (34) also has the same port hole which leaked.

Could not find replacement in my country so I replaced both of them by 24 hr solar air-vent and sealed the top half arch with sealent to prevent water zipping in.

That works well for years but the see thru function on that tiny port hole area is gone.
