Definition of pontoon mooring please ?

In our harbour I enquired about moving to a vacant, better berth than the one we have. Only to be told it is not vacant, someone has paid the fee but has not put his boat there this year.
Will vary by harbour, but most marina contracts are careful to specify that you pay for a right to a berth, but NOT a specific berth. Check your contract if you have one. Then perhaps politely suggest you swap berths with the virtual boat until it returns.
Of course, in some harbours, if the virtual berth holder is the friend of the brother of the aunt of the harbour master, no incomer will have any sway over things.

It may come as a surprise, but bear in mind you are trying to deal with human beings. Rational and logic simple does not exist at all. What happens, Happens and that is that. No point ever trying to reason, things are what they are.

Its all about the contract / agreement.

Our Marina walk on moorings were originally constructed by a number of boat owners who wished to have walk on mooring. They approached th club to build the moorings but the club refused and there was no money available (it had been said)

A group of boat owner then got together and created a walkon association and those who wanted a walk on mooring the put their own money into the association to get the moorings built and those who put money in were allocated a mooring on a first pay first alligated

During the time the owners then sold on the mooring they paid for and in my case the agreement was called a lease where the club was the lessor and I was the lessee. and some agreements became just right of use.

This is a case of agreements changing without reference to the original agreement for the financial benefit of the club.

Some mooring owners sold their boat and started to rent their mooring for financial gain of the mooring owner.

This I consider i wrong as moorings are for boats not for making income but only to offset and boat expenses like mooring away from the home mooring or when on the hard for maintenance.

The object of most yacht clubs is to promote sailing and not have boats lying idle in a marina. But the clubs harbour authorities are OK providing they recieve money for the mooring without further consideration.
