Definition of "marina"

Problem is that it appears on charts as a marina and boats often turn up, sometimes after a long passage, and get turned away. Needs deleting from charts, as does Faro which can't even be accessed at HW springs in an inflatable as no clearance under railway bridge.

Perhaps people should do their homework. The word "marina" does not automatically mean that it is either accessible at all states of the tide or with mast up, nor that it is open to the public as both my example and yours shows.

I don't know what you find as an acceptable 'marina' - all I want is somewhere local and reasonable priced where I can walk on board and sail away, as my knees now give me hassle especially in a tender.

What has a pair of t..ts got to do with pontoons - other than design of fenders,

First Mate and I chuckled quietly to ourselves last year in Strangford Yacht Haven. No critisism made or implied, we had a lovely stay.

It is a single pontoon about 30 metres long with electricity and water close to the Strangford/Portaferry Ferry terminal and can take three small or two larger craft either side.

It is not expensive, the nearby Hotel has showers-and that is where you pay for your berth-but Yacht Haven does appear to be a rather OTT description...................................

Quite so, and particularly in parts of the world where english is not the principle language (i.e. most of it).
"Marina" in Spanish simply means "marine", so almost anywhere wet and salty would qualify. The Spanish for our sense of the word is "puerto deportivo".
A friend recently spent the best part of an hour fruitlessly trying to find the web site for Bandol Marina in the S of France. "Port + Bandol" found it in seconds. Sorry, 0.53 seconds, to be precise.
Their country, their language: live with it.
