Dedicated starter battery 'architecture'

Fortunately each battery already has an isolation switch so for me the simplest solution is to replace my 1/2/both/Off switch with the Bluesea. All cables already in place and it avoids a redundant switch or hole in the panel

If you already have separate battery isolation switches then surely all you have to do is replace the 1,2,B switch with a simple on/ off switch to parallel the circuits in an emergency. You certainly do not need the dual circuit Bluesea switch

Or an alternative suggestion is to use the third switch to connect the domestics to the starter circuit. That way there is the flexibility to start the engine off the starter battery, or the domestics, or both paralleled.

Thats what I meant.

Its better to parallel the circuits downstream of the isolators than to parallel the batteries because it is then simple to leave a dud battery isolated and run the whole boat from the other,

Exactly. Apologies for misunderstanding your earlier post.
 
Unfortunately not, because the isolator switches are under the settee where the batteries are and not easily accessible on an hour by hour basis.

The Bluesea switch is available for £26, and will give me "panel" control of the batteries. If one became totally dud then I can pull the saloon to bits and isolate it!

Please don't fit a 1-2-both switch. If you only want to fit a single switch, fit the one Vic suggested above.
 
Actually, turns out I was right! £26 from Sails Marine in USA. Trouble is, by the time you add their "international handling charge" and carriage that becomes £44. Still £20+ less expensive than anyone in Uk though!
