Decompression levers

Back again Clifford,
A bit of a puzzle this one.
The mechanic was surprised that the o ring in the valve compressor was leaking.
He said that it is a part that gets almost no use and no wear.
He has never had to change one.
His guess is that the o ring is fitted from the out side.
The lever retaining nut , and lever are removed which give access to the o ring.
That would be very easy to check.
The pins that locate the compression shaft is driven in and sealed with a blob of epoxy. (see photo)
This would indicate that they are not usually (if ever) removed.
If you do want to remove the shafts,
He suggests chipping away the epoxy and hopefully it will be an expansion pin, so you can screw in a self tapper and withdraw it.

Hope this helps

I looked at an engine with 3000 hours on it and no leak.
Thanks for that, He is correct I have finally found the pins well covered by epoxy and paint. The pin is solid , so i'll check for cracks in the cover because I agree with it difficult to think that the O ring would be leaking past given they are never moved.
I will investigate further . One of lifes mysteries. Thank you for helping me I will let you know the result.
Kind Regards

I had oil appearing as with you and presumed it was blow by past the pistons. Sarabande suggested that earlier to you. My engine was a good few years old, I was leaving for foreign parts, so put a new one in rather than rebuild. Might be an idea to get a mechanic to assess the problem.
