At present I have a Danforth in a deck locker, if I wanted to fit an alternative, CQR or Delta, what sort of fitting should I use on the foredeck to secure it in place?
I have not seen them lately but it used to be possible to buy a set of chocks to fit a CQR or similar on deck. I have them. On the other hand the boat I crew regularly just has the anchor lashed to the feet of the pushpit. That has been cruised extensively along the south coast the C.Is the northern coast of France and to Spain in all weathers with no problems. It was also possible to get chocks for Danforths.
Why get another plough type? The Danforth could sit on the foredeck in special chocks and be a lot less painful to fall on! The CQR or Bruce is usually lodged over the bow roller (not while racing!) so decide on your bower and stow the kedge and a spare anchor (Fisherman's?) aft in the cockpit locker - keeping weight out of the ends and all that.
About 3 years ago I got a handy set of metal chocks from Aladdin's Cave at Burseldon for my 45 lb CQR. They are quite adaptable and would fit pretty much any CQR or plough anchor - also cheap!
