Debutante 21\'

I am looking at one of these and wondered if anyone has any experience in a Debutante? I am looking to sail her from Aberdovey with strong tidal harbour entrance.

Many thanks for your help.

Re: Debutante 21\'

As a follow on from my last question could anyone advise what I should be looking for!!

Budget c£5000 (not a great deal I know!)

Wooden

Something that will sit on the mud without falling over!

Sleep 3 or 4

Ideally have a diesel inboard

There doesnt seem to be a lot that's both wooden and bilge/triple keel.

Once again, any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hugh

Re: Eventide 24\'?

Mirelle

They look lovely, thank you very much for taking the trouble!

One more question.....is sailing these things as much fun as looking for them? It surely can't take up as much time!!!

Re: Debutante 21\'

I had one many moons back, not especially pretty but we did a good few miles in her, had a tempremental Stuart Turner 4hp inboard with hand start. Tristan Jones (was he a welshman?) sailed his up the coast of S America against the current and then took her for a sail on Lake Titikaka (sp?). With a strong tide entrance and any boat of this size you will need to plan a bit carefully, the Deb is no different.

There is a Deb for sale at Wicor Marine. Portchester. It looks in very nice condition and I think £2995.

As far as I know it belongs to the yard man, Robbie, he is a very nice guy and pleasant to deal with. As far as I know its been on the market for a year or more.

Wicor's no is 01329 237112 I'm sure they can either give you Robbie's direct no or get him to the phone.

All best Nick

Robin,
Are you sure he took a Deb - I thought it was a Felicity or something similar >
Not that it matters.

Re: Debutante 21\'

I had one from 1971-1973 (3 seasons sailing). Sailed her from Torquay to Stourport on Severn and back to Milford and pottered about on the Devon coast.Didn't go to windward very well, but never gave me a moments anxiety in a seaway. The thing to watch is for rot through the end grain of the plywood, especially from the fresh water on the decks. I spent quite a lot of time scarfing in infills! Mine had a Seagull outboard-bit exciting when it went under the water through a wave, but it usually kept going. Good Luck-should be suitable for Aberdovey, but have a strong motor to get out over the bar in the usual South Westerly.

Re: Debutante 21\'

Thank you KK. I think she will be perfect as a starter boat, or rather a step up from dinghy sailing/racing to cruising. I agree about the motor and we have an 8hp 4 stroke which I am told by the old boys in Aberdovey should be ample for getting over the Aberdovey bar. I hope so!! Collecting her tomorrow and hope to launch her the following weekend. She is in pristine condition at the moment, I will doubtless be back on here for tips as to how to keep her so!!

We trailed her up from Wicor to Shropshire yesterday and hope to launch her this Friday at Fron Goch, up the river from Aberdovey in West Wales, weather permitting.

I can't wait, she is SO pretty!! Annie is already accusing me of having another woman in my life!!
