The buoys have been moved to their 2022 positions as shown here on April 8th 2022. They were taken at low water neaps 1.25m min above CD.

I will repeat these at the next spring tide to show more of the knolls and hopefully the bar.

Hi Johnah,

Many thanks for your ongoing support for visitors to your lovely River. We are planning a visit to the Tide Mill as our shakedown this year, so the photos will be very helpful.

Also looking forward to Dick publishing the "Not to be used for navigation" chartlet on the ECP website.

Peter.

It is an oddly marked channel and the guidance on the chart is always an important element - without it there is the potential for things to go very wrong!

OK I will bite and say it. There are two Portland buoys which may be OK and you keep to seaward of them the next buoy is a starboard hand buoy which would seem to indicate that the channel lies between that and the last Portland buoy, unfortunately there is a bloody great shoal slap bang in-between the two buoys ie the middle of the channel. Am I missing something and been marooned on land for too long.

Many thanks, comparing your pictures of before and after the buoys were moved......... before on the right, after on the left (hope you don't mind me re-posting your pictures)

Looking at that pic, if I saw them from seaward I would assume you need to turn hard round the second phb and aim just to port of the shb. Would that land me on that shoal?

Probably not but don't forget that shoal will be covered at HW when a lot will choose to enter and leave.
