I have just bought a small boat, 23 foot carvel construction and have been told its a Deben made by Whisscocks of Woodbridge. Does anyone know of this boat or does anyone have any plans at all so I can establish its identity.

Kind regards, Chris

What is the name of this "Deben" 4 Tonner? I have a list of quite a few of these boats. There are as you have probably found out different layouts of thes boats. The post war boats have the same under water profile but many have more freeboard. Some of them had the full width coach roof, 1947 on. I have a Deben in my workshop (1947)which I am slowly sorting out. Refastening and new interior etc. There are several ways to be sure she is a Deben by looking closely at her construction. Only 4 main floors(grown oak). They all had the same mainsheet horse for the mainsheet. When you know what to look for its easy to tell. I have a set of the plans giving the general layout and sail plan.

Will look them out.

Regards, Pete

Hi Pete, that explains something because this one has a coachroof and side decks and those on the net I have seen had the full width cabin forward of the cockpit. Unfortunately the main front panel to the cabin has been replaced and this is where her hull number would have been, as I understand it. I dont know how to send a picture of her on here, hence the e-mail suggestion. Her name is 'Susan' and as far as I can make out she has been called this for the last 30 years + .

Unfortunately the old timer mast and spars are gone and she is Bermudan Rigged with an ali mast and boom. Looks to be fitted for a Stuart Turner but engine is removed, however all the pipework is there for the original installation. By the main floors I take it you mean the main beams in the bilge securing the keelbolts?? Excuse the ignorance. Kind regards, chris
