I know on my Davits the max weight specified is the max total weight on both davits. (so total weight of 85kg)
I guess in bouncy weather one davit could end up taking the full weight.

My davits have a maximum weight limit of 85kg.

Can anyone help is this per davit i.e. total weight of 170kg or just total of 85kg

I am good friends with a well known ex manufacturer of davits , correct his theory to cover himself is true that one davit could end up taking the full load . But it's not always the davit that bends of breaks, it's the point where is attached that fails. 85kg is plenty and in my experience of boats with them on I've always gone over the limit with nothing failing . If you have a transom door model boat make sure the light end of the dinghy is at that end .check the cables are good and not frayed along with an exam of the crimp end to the cable drum.

Ours are 150kg each (ie total 300kg) and the tender weighs 150kg with fuel and motor. But because some of our coastal passages can get interesting with Atlantic sea state, we reinforced the anchoring points with steel plates behind extra grp layers, and put vertical support posts between each davit and the bathing platform. F6 wind against tide in a moderate swell can cause a lot of movement, so we have extra straps that go under the tender to secure it firmly to the davits and stop any horizontal sideways swing. Even with all of that I've often wondered what the torsional loads might have been on the davit anchor points on some of our long bouncy passages off the Atlantic SW coast of Ireland.
