Cheers (Stones Green Ginger Wine, sippers only) as I am driving tonight after 2100 BST (2000UTC). Come home especially for this 'Virtual Toast to David !!
To David and Barbara and Linda ans everyone - CHEERS
Ladies and gentlemen
It is now 21-00 Hrs on 7th April 2007 and still nothing has been heard regarding David or Colros and whilst there is always a chance that he may never turn up, we must now accept that he may never do so. Rather than let him vanish from the forum without another word let us raise our glasses to a brave man and a good ship. If he has gone then he did so doing what he loved best, sailing, and we are all at risk of the same fate whenever we go to sea. So for now, Ladies and Gentlemen, raise your glasses and I give you David and Colros. Cheers one and all, a sentiment I know is also reflected by others not able to join us in this toast.
Dave
Come on folks , I never knew David but we all knew of him and I don't think he would have wanted a wake , he'd have wanted a party to celebrate his life , so I'm on a nice wee dram of Glen Orde , what's your poison and turn that music UP
David loved Christmas Pudding,
I found one at the back of the cupboard that must have escaped his clutches. Tonight we eating it in celebration of his friendship.

I don't like whisky, or single malt (heathen I hear!), and am really not too keen on rum either, so just have a Banks beer to quaff, while thinking about all sailors who proceed to sea in small vessels.
Fair winds David.
Larry's plaing us "The Sailor's Hornpipe" very expertly on his guitar!
My way of honouring David is to quote from his letters to me:
“I’ve wanted to go for a long sail on my own since I was about 18, and have decided that if I’m not going to end up getting old and regretting never having done it, it’s now or never.”
I replied: “Your ‘long sail’ sounds like a lifelong dream, if rather lonely and perhaps a little dangerous?”
“Not really – Yes people do disappear at sea – maybe fall overboard and drown, or get run down by ships, but statistically it’s safer than staying at home – there’s no risk of a road accident and it’s wonderful for your general health so you don’t get heart attacks etc from stress and overwork! A big part of what I’m going after in going away can be summed up in this quote:
‘And then again, when you sit at the helm of your little ship on a clear night, and gaze at the countless stars overhead, and realize that you are quite alone on a great, wide sea, it is apt to occur to you that in the general scheme of things you are merely an insignificant speck on the surface of the ocean, and are not nearly so important or as self-sufficient as you thought you were. Which is an exceedingly wholesome thought, and one that may effect a permanent change in your deportment that will be greatly appreciated by your friends.’ – James S. Pitkin
“Anyway, that’s me.” Yes that’s you, my dearest cousin David, and you’ll always be in my heart no matter where you sail. All my love forever, Barbara x
