I had a small incident resulting in a claim in Sept18, my renewal date is 1st oct. My ins co this year seem only to be allowing me 1 year no claims when I was expecting 2. Does this seem normal practice?

Dunno. My boat insurer doesn't give no claims at all. Can't remember the term they use but they're reasonably competitive and premium increases seem to accord with the insurance market in general rather than my own performance.
When I had no claims protection and crashed my car my insurers put my premium up. When I queried this they said that I was now a higher risk, so I suspect no claims bonus to be an exercise with smoke and mirrors.

I would honestly think it doesn't make any difference. They know when you had an accident, so why would they give you any discount re. no claims? They don't bother with no claims on classic car insurance. Personally I think its a big scam.

Ask them. No claims is a gesture not an entitlement. Is the net figure acceptable?

Did they settle the claim before the end of Sept 18 or did it drag on into October 18? If the latter then I would not expect 2 years no claims TBH as they probably work on date of settlement rather than date of claim.

The renewal premium is ok and they are a good company so I will run with it, particularly as they have not asked for a survey. Maybe an old cheap boat does not justify that. I guess that the claim was not settled until after my renewal date
