I doubt whether anyone speaks in English at the Kas offices. When you arrive in Kas harbour, not the Marina, you will be met by Smiley ( Ismael) and the local agent. Smiley speaks good English the Agent has limited english. Smiley bey is the local Mr Fixit and also restaurant owner. Between them you will get anything you need to be organised quickly done.

We ended up checking in Datca using Serder has our agent , they can be located by the small round about just out side the Marina . Mr Saher was very friendly All they wanted was our visa,SSR , insurance and passport , we was walked over to the police station just a few minutes with one of his guys to show our passport and then asked to return back at 5 pm .
When we returned back every thing was done without any fuss , only thing they didn't have was the blue card , we where told not worry about it , the cost was 280 TL about 100 Euros .
Here a tip
We anchored in the North bay , has we didn't want to use the Marina , when talking to the agent don't tell him that your at anchor or your will charge another 50 TL for customs officers not to visit you or so they say , can't work that out , you pay nothing in the Marina and the custom have to spend time to visit the boat , or you pay 50 TL at anchor for them not to visit you . I guessing it just a way they can get a bit more money ., in the end we didn't pay the extra 50 TL a few jokes and chat about Holland and England and charge was forgotten .

Our first entry of Turkey was Datça, probably used the same “ Agent”. As everybody we ware ripped off.
We then wintered 10 years in Turkey, clearing in and out every 3 months. In those days the max stay with visa. Summer was Dodecanese and Cyclades with occasional hops into Turkey. ( Bad boy )
During summer we ware never caught, in winter I was surprised once by the Turkish coastguard.
Only three liveaboard yachts outside marina´s on the whole South coast, we ware an easy target.
I had cleared out, then hid for a week in a very remote bay. They spotted our boat with a helicopter, then came with the 50 feet launch to cheque my papers.
I was lucky. A south east force 8 was blowing, so I told the officer the strong wind had surprised me coming from Rhodes, I was just waiting for the wind to calm down and clear in.
He knew I was lying but let it go, said I had to clear in the day after.
Turks are friendly.

I always did all the “Work “ myself, had only to pay for the transit log and the visa stamp.
Some officials tried to get money extra. A doctor in Marmaris, a police officer in Cesme.
I refused to pay the extra, just walked out. No problem.
Never ever paid for customs, always at anchor.
Then a new habit, one needed to use an agent.
I persuaded a befriended chandler to become “Agent”.
He became an instant moneymaker, my clearing in and out was for free. Suddenly I was his best friend.
I knew a French guy who cleared in without using an agent. He knew the harbour captain well, slipped some lira between his papers.
However, I had to clear in ( clearing out can be done for free ) in the same town which was not always convenient. The Blue card rip off came to it, so I decided we had seen the best of Turkey.

Our first use of the Datça agent was in 2002.
It is possible that nowadays agents calculate there fees more honest.

When my chandler became agent I used his computer and log in to do the first clear in.
Had to help the good man a bit.
Had to type in all the same stuff I had filled in by hand on the transit log for many years.
Took me two minutes.
Had the computer had a keyboard which I knew AND readable keys I could have done it in one minute. His keyboard had been used before in an internet cafe, making most of the keys “Blind”
Walking from office to office takes some time, I admit. I liked doing the walk and see the expression on the faces of the officials when I walked in. First client in three months. Stamp. Done.

Fethiye was fun. The Visa stamps ware kept in a safe. So I walk in, then one of the 10 persons in the office ( All playing cards ) phoned the authorised person to open the safe.
About 10 minutes later, a chauffeured car stopped in front of the office, a mink coat lady stepped out, gave me dirty look and then opened the safe. I paid 10 € which she threw into the safe, slammed the door shut, another dirty look, then the chauffeur drove the lady back home.
In those days lots of well paid paper jobs existed for good looking lady's. Not that the other employees had something to do but at least they had to show up.

Pure entertainment and an inside look of the real Turkey. Better than paying a lot of money and someone else having the fun.

We will be checking into Bodrum - picking crew up there etc - good guidance from James Mar of this forum for how to do it. Then on to Marmaris by August. Leave Greece behind until it settles I think.

Yes we did read James report , I think you have a good chance of doing a DIY in Bodrum , we did think about it , but we ended up on Rhodes for a week and the winds where just right for Datca and though at the time bugger it lets just pay the extra and be done with , not like me as a rule .
We will hit Greece on the way back in sept till the end of Oct before making our way to sicily . By then it should be nice and quiet and the mad rush will have passed .
Turkey is lovely we having a great time so many empty anchorages , Marmaris now and after everything you read about the place you would expect it to be packed with boat . We have six around us and the other night none . The down side to Marmaris bay is the music .
I think greece will be a while before it settle every year more and more changes and still a lot more to come no matter what some say on YBW .
