Nothing that follows is intended to make light of what can only be described as a tragic occurence!
Although often refered to as "survival of the fittest" Darwinism is not about individuals staying alive, its about passing on the fittest set of genes to your offspring. That said only those jet skiers who die before having children are helping to wipe out the tendancy.

Experience tells us governments don't work like that. It will be heavy handed and bureaucratic and will involve you in paying out lots of lolly for licences and being sent of wild goose chases for referees and pictures of yourself against a white background and all that nonsense.
Jetskis probably do need to be regulated because unlike most boating activities, because the main people at risk are not the drivers and crews of the craft. If you think that driving a car needs regulation then it follows that jetskis should as well.
Alas, I agree that any jetski regulation would suck in all sorts of other water activities and probably completely fail to solve the original problem, but surely it can't be left as a lethal free-for-all?
Jetskis are gloriously fun to ride, though. I can never imagine owning a motorboat but scooting round and round a motorboat that is doing 20knots and leaving it for dust is a great payback for all the times I've been cut up in sailing boats. Lucky I'm a mature and experienced sailor, unlike all the other jetski riders.
