Dartsailer 28 & 30

One for maybe our Dutch friends ?

Does anyone know if the Dartsailer 28 &30 in addition to the conventional engine propulsion installation , gearbox shaft prop etc was also designed for a 'Saildrive propulsion installation' ?

The Dartsailer 30 is a longkeel; a sail drive would be highly improbable. The 28/27 has a long fin, but the drive shaft runs through a long skeg which is part of the hull's molding, so that would be a no as well.

Hi Andrew Looking at an old survey ( done six years ago) of a Dartsailer 28 it says the saildrive was original to the boat with the engine/saildrive installed below the aft open cockpit deck, where as normally I would have expected a normal shaft driven prop would have the engine located below the wheelhouse floor.

Yes this one has a 2m long fin keel as you say and a Dutch colleague says Willem de Vries-Lentsch the Dutch architects would not have designed them with a saildrive but this drawing shows one and I am wondering if the builders did a special OR its common for the 28' & 30' to have a saildrive ,so confusing to say the least as the surveyor had a good reputation.

We were in Holland for the last 5 years. We spoke to a couple of owners and looked at a few in&out of the water. We never saw a 28' with a sail drive and the engine was always mounted under the wheelhouse floor with a molded shaft housing. Perhaps the 28 was offered with a saildrive as an option. There appears to also be a Dartsailer 27, this one definitely came with a sail drive ( I noticed one for sale the other day). The 28 has, in NL and Germany, "Sirocco" added to it's name and may be a different beast completely. The 30' is definitely a long keel boat and we had a look at one around the corner from where we kept ours.

They are nice little ships and sail fairly well, a 38' would be perfect.

Thanks done a bit of research and I think the 'Sirocco' bit may be a clue as all found so far do have a sail drive fitted also totally agree also the Dartsailer 38 would be dream boat for me even above a CW but would happily settle for a 30'
