Has anyone else read the piece in the telegraph sports pages about Sam Davies? Read it carefully and it becomes clear the writer thinks the cockpit of a boat is that bit downstairs where you keep your laptop. I paraphrase, 'not much time will be spent in the cockpit because Sam will be behind the wheel helming'. It's a poor show that they sent someone to Sables d'Olonne who doesn't know his way round a boat, but even odder that the story must have been read by a sports ed then subbed without anyone spotting the ... well, er, gaffs, if you see what I mean.

My guess is that most Sports Desk subs will know how to spell "Ruud Van Nistelroy" but wouldn't know a cockpit if it up and hit them over the head. Ditto their reporters though, if there's one place I'd expect them to be knowledgeable, it would be the Torygraph (and Bob Fisher in the Grauniad, though he's a bit iffy on the subject of wrecks near the Needles).

At least there was a decent length article on her. She is doing blindingly well and deserves all the coverage she can get. V. bright girl and talented to boot.

Radio 5 Live

On coverage of The Open Golf at Sandwich made repeated comments about the beautiful weather, the glorious views across The Channel, and the yachts and ketches in view.

No sign of cutters, yawls or gaffers however.

Re: Radio 5 Live

boaters didn't do brilliantly - the rib flying along at 30knots flying the blue and white dive flag is worse than the no cone motor sailer and the no ball anchorman (tehe)........

Logical fallacy

Well I know what you mean Andy. But I think ketch and yawl is one distinction and cockpit and saloon quite another. I mean, if someone said 'that's a ford fiesta' and someone else said 'no it's a vauxhall astra' I'm willing to write it off. But when someone says 'it's a ford fiesta' and I can see a bicycle... you get my point. All buses are red, all post boxes are red, all post boxes are buses. I don't think so.
