D2-40 base engine

Thanks both - I am pretty sure its a Perkins of some sort and cant imagine that the rocker cover was altered during marinisation - Volvo want £40+ for it. Any thoughts on what the engine actually is?

I believe it's a Shibaura base engine, produced by a joint-venture outfit called Perkins Shibaura Engines Ltd. You could no doubt match the bore/stroke to find the Shibaura engine model number. Shibaura engines are used in lots of industrial plant, so you may be able to find a cheaper rocker cover gasket. I'm not sure that the saving would warrant the effort involved.

If you have a careful look the original Perkins label with engine no. and model will be attached to it somewhere, at least it was on my D1-30

Looking for a rocker box gasket and when I google parts4engines show the gasket from a Perkins 4.236. £7
Is this the right part?
The D2 40 is a Perkins 400 series engine marinised by VP see here https://www.parts4engines.com/volvo-penta-d2-40-parts/
Here are the Perkins 400 bits, https://www.parts4engines.com/perkins-400-series/ note the rocker box gaskets in the kits are the same.
Try phoning Jeremy up and ask do they sell the rocker box gaskets separately.
