cutting perspex(?) washboards

If there is a "makerspace" near you that has a CNC (or laser cutter) you could consider joining them and using their machines. The membership has a cost over the long term, but for a boat owner I find that the benefits far overweigh that.

This is the OPs boat yachtsnet.co.uk/archives/sadler-290/sadler-290.htm 1000*600 for the companionway does not look far out. This is a sample quote for a single piece with no cut and no polishing perspexsheet.uk/clear-000-perspex/ so £150 for finished job of 2 pieces with a 45 degree cut and polished edges including delivery would not be far out. If his current unused one piece acrylic washboard is in good nick a few quid to a workshop and a bit of work to attach a batten would do it - just like I did.
You must have Googled for the most expensive Perspex supplier in the country.

Be a nice little job in the evening, when you're at anchor 😉
This is my idea of a nice little job in the evening when I'm at anchor :)

Can you point us to somewhere much cheaper as I am in a similar position after a mishap with mine. Must be 8mm thick at least. I have an added complexity that mine is not actually rectangular as the bottom of the hatch is a little narrower than the top…

Lots to choose from with a Google search, if it's just basic stuff i pick the cheapest.

For anything more complex i use Project Plastics at Colchester. They've made lots of plotter adapter plates for me, panels to cover redundant holes with cutouts for sosckets, USB sockets etc, they make a very nice set of panels to replace the ones in my radar arch and a new tinted screen for the flybridge.

I was charged about £60 for a 10mm thickness in 2016 for a top wash board. Prices will have risen since but not not astronomically. We told them dimensions of the washboard top and bottom and they cut it to shape. Just some acrylics place in Gloucester

I chamfered the bottom at 45 degrees simply using angle grinder, as once in place one cant see that edge.

I was so pleased with it that I then got rid of my spray hood and built an entire doghouse out of 12mm acrylic and spent less than £200 for the 5 pieces, and indeed spent nearly as much on the 2x2 iroko pine 'verticals' at the corners as they needed machine chamfering by the supplier
