I know that Raymarine say don't cut HSB2 network cable, but I need to cut it in order to feed it up the tube in my steering pedestal.
Has anyone successfully cut and rejoined or extended this cable?
I have got loads of RJ45 connectors and a professional crimping tool so I thought I would just get a RJ45 to RJ45 F/F connector to remake the cut

Yes I have done it successfully. It is important to maintain the screening through the joint and thus RJ45 connectors are not suitable. The only connector I found that might be suitable was a "Twinax" but as Raymarine receommended a quality soldered joint I followed their advice. I teased the screen back a fair way on each end and after soldering and insulating the joints in the 2 wires, I layed the screens back over the joint and heat shrunk sleeving tightly over the screen to hold it in place. On installation I avoided having any bend on the joint.
