Cutlass bearings.

Just so. Jeremy Rogers still supplies solid Tufnol bearings for the Contessa 32.
I am considering going over to a conventional cutlass in order to see if it reduces noise from the shaft.

Literally, new bearings fitted and singing started on launch. Props were cleaned so it's either them or the bearings. Will take a look under the boat when visibility improves to make sure the bearings haven't come loose but doubt that they will have done.

The usually quoted cause of singing is sharp trailing edges on propellers. Unless you have sharpened them, it could be that replacing the bearing has changed the natural frequency of the whole assembly and it is now resonant. Either way, running a file along the prop trailing edge to square off the sharpness will normally solve it.

That makes sense, I did give them a good clean with emery paper and the edges were pretty sharp. Will take a file over the side sometime soon.

Thanks
