Crunched winches / PhotoAlbum now live!

where is it

Ah, I presume it can be viewed if my "profile" is "viewed". And I assume (dangerous thing to do) that you have to click on my name somewhere in the thread/post?
Why is life so darned complicated for people over a certain age?! I can manage to confuse myself without ANY help from outside.
Good luck, and thanks for trying to view it and your feedback.

Hopefully......................

photobucket is much easier + you can save photos on another server for safe keeping

It works - at least for me! Great photos of your handsome craft in stunning surroundings. Sorry about your winch, we have Lewmar 40 winches but at last strip down they were (a year ago) fine.

I've seen some neglected winches over the years - but that' a winner!

I don't think it's seen a lick of grease since the day it was put together in the factory.

Hey hey :) Yippee, and all that stuff. At last!
Thanks for the comments and the confirmation. Lucky you with your winches, they must have been inspected and serviced regularly.
Huge expense to replace them so a MUST DO on the never-ending list of jobs!

Good sailing, fair winds.

Verrrrry true!

I find it odd that both the winches failed on the same day, almost within minutes of each other - after perhaps thirty years service!
It's not as if I'd not been out in strong winds since I bought the boat in 2010. And I know that the previous owner (Les Clark) sailed her in strong winds (notably a F8/F9 round Ardnamurchan Point - solo)

Fate, I suppose.

Thanks for your feedback.

Sorry you must name a price
Rools is Rools :D

Hmmmm, tricky one there. If I go too low I'll kick myself. On the other hand, if I go too high I MAY put people off.

How about if I take them to the Boat Show next month, and I could auction them? But there again, I don't want to carry them in, carry them round all day and carry them out again.

But if you are SERIOUSLY interested, then I could put a price on them........................

would they be good replacements for my old Lewmar 53STs

Crunched Lewmar 40s

would they be good replacements for my old Lewmar 53STs

I would very much doubt it, sorry.
Firstly I wouldn't know what size your %£sts are, but I would gues they are considerable larger.
But more importantly my spindles (worn teeth) are beyond effective repair and spares/replacements are (so I'm told by Lewmar) no longer available.

As for the drums, the pall-sockets could be machined and sleeved, but I wouldn't like to guess at the cost.

Sadly, other than the chewed pall-sockets and the badly worn teeth, the rest of the winches are in ok order. Annoying that spares are unavailable.

Hope this helps.

Had you ever serviced the winches since you got the boat? Do you know when they were last checked?

Just trying to gauge how quickly the problem developed.
