Just to let you guys know we are now cruising the south Finnish coast towards Helsinki. Its not very heroic as we left our boat for the winter in Sweden. I have to say that although we have had some good days on the way the weather now at Hanko is lousy with rain most of yesterday, all night and now.
Why come here at all question mark (keys in different places - no more punctuation). Well the pilotage is great fun, the charts and sea mrks are superb and the panorama of endless islands and skerries is quite wonderful. I am complaining again though at Hanko the price 18 euros is the highst by far. The previous was 9. This and the swedish coast is a wonderful area to visit. Be on the forum in the autumn.

Roger,

Weather awful here too so don't worry about it. Sounds great out there in amongst the islands.

The last five years I spent there we had wonderful weather for almost the whole time.

In September the weather was slightly worse but all the harbours were peaceful - many not charging as it was "out of season".

Excellent navigation marks, delightful people, superb sailing in lovely scenery and NO TIDE.

Have overwintered in both Sweden and Denmark and long term berthed in Finland all with great help from HMs and at prices 33% lower than Uk at the least, many 505 lower.

I came back yesterday from 15 days spent taking a boat from Kiel up to Mariehamn and then back to Stockholm. Superb cruising area. The only problem we found was in obtaining butane refills (Calor or Camping Gaz), but got it in Kalmar and at the Wasahamn marina in Stockholm.

I find people like you mad. What's the point of going all that way in 15 days? You cant have seen anything other than the Marina toilets, and must have sailed past all the pretty bits.

We spent 3 months covering half that area last year, and are still there for more this year.

Mind you, we did do Keil to Vastervik in 14 days earlier this year, but that was a 'delivery trip', not cruising....

We did Kiel to Oxelosund in one week, then had the second week exploring the archipelago. Unfortunately we don't all have the ability to spend three months cruising, so have to make do with what we can get. If that makes us mad in your eyes, then so be it.

Hello Peter! :)

That was a great meat and veg that you and your crew so kindly served us in Kalmar. Thanks once again!!! :)

We bumped into Pegasus of Orwell once again at Vasahamnen in Stockholm - a very charming fair haired lady welcomed us into the harbour.

I'm now back in Krakow for a couple of days, but heading back to Wild Call (she's at Mariehamn) in a few hours time.

Fair winds!

Simon
