''Exactly'' France has ports doesn't it? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Which ones do you suggest? Oh yes of course, there is port France

[/ QUOTE ]

Of course France has ports you imbecile, it also has a good burgundy or two and some fine and not-so-fine wines!

I would suggest though that you depart from somewhere on the south coast of France, as a) the weather will be more pleasant and b) it will be more of a challenge.

Have fun /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Maybe better to take note of the "gloating sarcasm". Here you are at the font of all boaty knowledge and your wondering why there mocking you. Can you actually tell, which ones are sarcasm, and which ones are giving good advice???

Nobody has a right to ''Mock'' someone that is looking for help.

I may not of been specific enough in what I am looking for, it's something I was hoping to learn. The only thing I've learned from this is that there are perhaps a handful of friendly people here willing to help. If you've got nothing helpful to say, don't say anything.

I'll be in a Honda 3.8M Air V Floor Dinghy

Now maybe I'm being rather slow today, but this is a wind up isn't it?

If not then I suggest you seek professional help. And not of the nautical variety.

It is not a wind up, a curiosity. I'd like to know if it is possible to cross the channel from the shortest points in a Honda 3.8M Air V Floor Dinghy /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Possible yes. Advisable, probably not.

If you choose a flat calm day with good visibility then perfectly possible. Would suggest you have another boat tag along for safety's sake plus take all the usual precautions re fuel, safety gear etc etc.

But I wouldn't want to do it!

Yes it is a wind up and it's obviously not just me, thinks so.

It's taken umpteen posts to find what your real intentions are.

Yes there are a few folk here, who could do it quite safely You, I'm afraid, could not. Now does that answer your question.

No, it is not a wind up despite what you think. It's something I would like to do, no matter how much I have to prepare and train myself for. I'm willing to try hard at, with your support or not.

My real intentions? What the hell is your problem, I want to take the challenge and dedicate myself towards achieving it. Why do you have to be so bitter in trying to insult someone you don't understand.

It is certainly possible. The main challenge you will face is fuel: carrying enough to get you across with a sensible safety margin (20%-30%) without carrying so much that you can't plane.

Would second the suggestion of being accompanied by a "support" (i.e. a larger boat) in case of difficulty.

Also, to have two engines: maybe a 5hp that can run off aux tanks as a backup...

A support boat is definately a good idea. I'll work out the math for the fuel, distance and several other factors.

Two engines is a sound plan

Thanks Dvinell

Perhaps a discussion with both the MCA and RNLI might bring things into perspective for you a little! However, there is a guy currently attempting to circumnavigate Great Britain in a rather small boat - oh and he is quadriplegic. He does however have rather a large support team! Geoff Holt

It proves nothing is impossible, but you'd better prepare well and I also have to ask the question - why do you want to? Geoff's rationale is fairly obvious - mind over matter and taking the challenge of his disability head on, but your motivation! Plain stupidity springs to mind, but hay ho, each to their own. Be a pretty dull world if we were all the same.

Most people enjoy different types of challenges. Whether it is mental or physical or perhaps both. This challenge is going to be the first major stepping stone for me in a list of achievements i'd like to accomplish. Shortly put, I'd like to prove to myself that I can withstand mental and physical rigor of the nautical kind in those conditions. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
